In Collaboration with Bazaar Productions and
MASS MoCA

A work in progress showing of The Waypoint premiered at MASS MoCA on Saturday February 6, 2010 to a sold out audience!  Check back soon for updates, to get the inside scoop and to learn where the project is heading next. We will also be posting behind the scenes photos of our ten day residency and musings from North Adams!

ABOUT THE WAYPOINT

Weaving rich narrative, magical realism and an original soundscore, The Waypoint reveals the epic and often unexpected journey into life. The action of the play centers around Shelby, whose unplanned pregnancy reveals concern that her broken past will make her unfit to bring another life into this world, and Tristan, her soon-to-be-born baby who is hesitant to make his way to earth. Taking place simultaneously in two distinct worlds, the play moves seamlessly between life on earth and the waypoint, a transitional place where souls prepare for reincarnation. Written by Iris Dauterman while in residency at Bazaar Productions’ own EarlyStages program in 2008, the play is filled with wit, humor and a story that is both surprising and sublime. We are delighted to have the opportunity to develop this project while in residency MASS MoCA, a true leader in the contemporary arts movement and an organization we deeply admire.

Featuring: Emma Dweck, Josh Ramos, Timothy Ryan Olson, Adam Sugarman, Karen Beaumont, Hilary Somers Deely and Matt Tannenbaum

Directed by Sara Katzoff, Sound Score by Peter Wise, Lighting Design by Tim Cryan and Costumes by George Veale

Originally developed at EarlyStages, under the guidance of award-winning playwright and dramaturg Laura Maria Censabella.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CONTINUE THE PROCESS OF BRINGING THIS EXTRAORDINARY PLAY TO LIFE!

Our residency at MASS MoCA was an incredible opportunity to delve into the process of generating new work. An anonymous donor has generously offered to give us $1000 to underwrite production costs and artist fees–if we are able to raise an additional $5000 from our friends and supporters. Help us reach our goal and play a part in The Waypoint’s next incarnation!
